The Essence of Aikido of Marin

Training at Aikido of Marin is focused on personal development, self-knowing, and appropriate interaction with the world outside of oneself. The Martial Art of Aikido provides a context for experiential learning in these three areas. For us, Aikido is like a prism refracting the white/visible light (our overall experience) into its component colors (distinguishable experiential qualities) so that we may develop more highly tuned awareness of self/other resulting in a self-conscious evolution of our impact in the world.

In choosing Aikido as a context for our development, we acknowledge the following:
• That our purpose is the refinement of spirit, and spiritual (not religious) qualities over defense of self and battlefield/street effective techniques.
• That the technical forms of Aikido are a context for discovering and developing the underlying concepts of the art.
• That refinement of our understanding and application of the concepts of Aikido contribute to our interaction with the world as well as to effective marital interaction.
